This Week’s Monday Madness
You can’t get much more ‘Old School’ than Martinelli; the family has been growing grapes and making wine from back-breakingly steep slopes in the Sonoma Valley for 130+ years. They bought their first tractor post-1950. Their tasting room is comprised of two old hop barns, mashed together sometime in the 1970s. They are famous for their single vineyard Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel, and they have a LOT of grapes to pick from. The Martinelli family sells around 90% of the grapes they grow in bulk. The rest-the cream of the cream of the crop-makes wines like this one.
The grapes for Bella Vigna are grown on the edge of the wild Sonoma Coast, buffeted by wind and weather. Their skins thicken in response to this treatment, and the wine they produce is similarly robust. Barrel fermented, with native yeasts, then aged in French barrique for 10 months…. this is a wine with personalty. Period.
Not fined, not filtered. Nothing added, nothing subtracted. The result: gorgeous! Lemon curd, toasted hazelnut, green apple, apricot, honeycomb, and cream. Lush. Plush. Complex, but with a tangy, mineral-rich finish.
And for today at least, even the price is ‘Old School’.
Online special available for in-store pickup after 12 PM. Available until Sunday, Dec 15 or until product runs out.
who we are
Connecting Good Friends with Great Wine
The idea that became Pour Richard’s was born of many late nights drinking wine with old friends. At least half of every couple worked in wine sales. Sooner or later, after a couple of great bottles, we’d start talking about how we never got to sell our favorite wines. Many of the best bottles in our respective warehouses never saw the light of day because we were all way too busy fulfilling our quotas on the big national brands. Small family vineyards, fun new regions? Those mostly sat there until we closed them out. “Wouldn’t it be great”, we all said, “if we could sell the things we drink?” So, that’s exactly what we’re doing! At Pour Richard’s, you’ll drink like an industry insider – a well-edited selection of wine, beer, and spirits, all at great values.
